Finally the Cove River came into view. The young she-cat was glad and flopped down along its banks and looked around. She was tired from her trek and glad that it hadn't meant crossing the dunes. How she hated those things. Sand and grit always got into her mouth and clung to her pelt. It was rough and coarse and got very hot in Greenleaf.
Her pelt was mostly a snow white with patches of bright ginger and raven black to break it up. Her aquamarine eyes scanned the territory around her as well as beyond. Nothing, no patrols no prey.....What was that! Oh it was just the fish. She stuck a white paw into the cold brackish water and chased after the fish. They all scattered quickly and darted this way and that. With a heavy sigh she pulled her paw out of the water and began to lick it dry.
The salt in the water made it taste nasty but at least now her paw was clean would dry faster. The salt in the water made every thing seem so heavy. Her eyes wandered off toward the vanishing Warriors of SkyClan.
The sky was paling and the dark shadows of the night were beginning to fade and brighten. It was almost dawn. Soon the Clan would awaken and life would go on as usual. The day would promise to be another cool clear day with few clouds in the sky. The wind was starting to pick up a little. Perhaps another windy day too.
Minnowpaw, one of DawnClan's newest apprentices had slipped silently from the camp again to come here and think. Lately her dreams had been troubling. They would haunt her for days. When she would try and talk about it to another cat it would just vanish from her mind leaving it blank. So for many sleepless nights Minnowpaw came here.
Grief still dragged the normally bright and hyper cat down. With the recent loss of her mother and mentor Minnowpaw's thoughts were filled with doubt. She looked so different compared to the other cats in her clan. Her pelt was thin and short, while on the other hand DawnClan cats had thick fluffy pelts. She also was so different from the other apprentices. Unlike them her mentor might as well have been trying to teach a tree. She was easily distracted and had a fancy to do things her way.
At the thought of her mother Minnowpaw layed her head on her front paws and stared up at the stars were her mother now was, gone and lost from her forever. She felt tears welled up in her eyes and one slowly made its way down her cheek to her chin where it dropped into the river.
She was lonely and had few friends in the clan. She felt like such an outsider in the clan.
Perhaps my destiny lies with another clan and not DawnClan, but then which one? Everything I have ever known is here. How could I bare to leave it all behind now? Maybe at my first Gathering I'd be able to make a new friend from another clan. Or maybe now? I doubt it. I wonder when Wolfstar will give me my new mentor, since my original mentor had been my mother before........
Minnowpaw let out a long and heavy sigh. The wind was definitely going to be strong today It made the tree branches sway and a few leaves fell down. It tugged at her fur and she drank in the scents carried on it. Nothing out of the norm. Her belly was staring to hurt from lying her so long and besides if she didn't start back soon then the Dawn Patrol might catch her and then she'd be in trouble.
As she started to push herself up her stomach protested and she felt bile rise in her throat so she quickly layed down again. She felt sick and now all she wanted to do was sleep. She felt so drained of energy. Her limbs were stiff and sore and cried out to be moved, but she refused. She would just stare at the fish in the river while her stomach settled down some, besides she can say that she felt like hunting early. The sky was now becoming stained with pale pinks and oranges.
